Do you really NEED to shampoo your hair?

I'm tired and I don't feel like it. But I have to at least condition, and I was wondering if shampooing is really essential for healthy black hair.

What does shampoo even do?Do you really NEED to shampoo your hair?
Actually, some studies show no you don't. Some say as a water wash can work best *im not so sure about that though lol*, or only washing your hair every couple of days or so. It keeps the natural oils in your hair, and thats what makes your hair soft, shiny, silky, stong and healthy looking. Most shampoos these days have horible chemicals, so try to look for naturtal products, and only wash your hair every two days. Shampoo stips your hair of its essential oils, thats why many people have dry, brittle hair. People with hair extentions can only wash their hair every 2/3 days because if they didn't their hair extentions would fall out, and their hair still looks clean. All these people that are saying 'shampoo gets rid all of the dirt, rah rah rah'. Yes it does, but shampooing your hair everyday, like I said stips your hair of essential vitamins and oils. Take good care of your hair, and don't listen to marketing crap from companies or other people saying, 'shampoo does this... shampoo does that....' or 'hey, try this shampoo! It makes your hair so clean and soft'. Bull. Shampoos that are actually marketed alot, have the worst chemicals in them and can damage your hair. Look for natural shampoos and be wise about your hair.Do you really NEED to shampoo your hair?
Yes you should shampoo your hair at a minimum of every 2.5-3 weeks (preferrably every 1-2 weeks).

Even though black hair needs more oils than many other cultures, our hair can only take so much. The only way to get rid of the excessive oils are to wash them out using shampoo. If too much oil accumulates in the hair, the hair will begin to mat together and even break off. Conditioners help to replenish the hair and provide a healthy amount of oils. So, just using conditioner on a regular basis would still not be effective in maintaining healthy black hair. However, if you are in a rush or recently washed your hair, you can and probably should co-wash your hair which is washing your hair using conditioner only. But again this is a temporary fix, and will only help to keep your hair healthy in the short-term (until you can use both shampoo and conditioner).

I feel your pain when you say you don't feel like it, it takes hours to wash, dry, and straighten my hair. But, it is well worth it in the end.

I hope this helps.
Well, I agree that some days it can be tiring to shampoo hair over and over again. However, shampoo is, in fact, extremely important. It cleans the hair and scalp of dirt and oil. I would recommend not shampooing every day because that can strip the hair of some oil that it needs. Still, you should definitely shampoo and condition your hair!
yessssssss.. if you were to condition and not shampoo, do you know how oily your hair would get? On top of that, the scalp needs to breathe and besides the hair being oily, you might get some dandruff and you don't want that- whether your hair looks good or not. Just do the extra 5- 10 minutes and youll be okay
Shampooing gets rid of oils, dirt and odors that cling to the hair. Not everyone shampoos daily. A conditioner for 1 or 2 days is fine before washing again. Water and a conditioner will rid some of the above but won't cut through oil and grease. A matter of good hygiene.

I like to shampoo daily. Talk to a hairdresser who can evaluate your hair.
Shampoo cleanses, while conditioner replenishes, revives, and solves the problem. If you're only conditioning, you're not getting rid of all the gunk in your hair. Besides it's not that time consuming or hard. Just put it in your hair and as soon as you've got it through all your hair, just wash it out.
yes yes and more yes shampoo cleans the hair gets rid of dirt and oil and gross stuff and for black hair our scalp needs to breathe sooo yes and you have to condition the hair aswell one cant be left with out the other
that is really gross. shampoo actually gets rid of all the dirt and oil but conditioner makes your hair smoothe and untangled
Yes, all the oil and grease will be stuck in your hair forever
